Liisa Matveinen (b.1961 in Ilomantsi, Karelia)

Liisa was one of the very first students when Sibelius Academy started folk music education in 1983. The pioneering group formed the band Niekku, that worked until 1991. Liisa graduated as a Master of Music in 1989, when she also joined Tallari in Kaustinen for five years. Tallari is the only government funded folk music ensemble among multitude of classical orchestras in Finland.

Liisa has co-worked with Tellu Turkka since 1995 in many bands: first in Tellu's solo project Suden aika, then in Mateli duo, story telling project Kuninkaissa kukkujat and the world famous Hedningarna. In the year 2003 the nowaday quartet Suden aika reformed with Liisa, Tellu, Katarina and Nora Vaura.

Liisa has been teaching folk singing, lamenting and kantele playing since 1984.

Since 1997 she has been commissioned to compose (mostly Finnish runo singing texts) for vocal ensembles and choirs.

In Suden aika Liisa sings and plays 15-string kantele.
